PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The work consists in the realisation of a new infrastructure that replaces the disused suburban tramway Milan – Desio continuing up to Seregno.

The route will be 14.3 kilometers long with 25 stops distant from each other on average 540 meters and will cross 8 municipalities: Milan, Bresso, Cormano, Cusano Milanino, Paderno Dugnano, Nova Milanese, Desio and Seregno up to the station for connections with Saronno – Malpensa, Como, Carnate – Bergamo (Orio al Serio) and Monza.

CMC oversees all the construction sites of the 8 municipalities involved in the project, dealing with the demolition of the obsolete disused tramway system, the complete renovation of the current structure of armament and electric traction as well as the installation of innovative engineering system and signalling technology. This is an overall development plan that includes a route with a first double-track part from Parco Nord to Paderno Dugnano locality Calderara (7.9 km) and a second part of the line, from Calderara to Seregno FS (6.4 km) with single track with doubling at intersections. An integral part of the work is the new Desio – Seregno tram depot, which will be located on the border between the municipalities of Desio and Seregno.

Thanks to this work, the territory will be equipped with a new and strategic infrastructure that will help to reduce CO2 emissions, to create less congestion, to improve people’s quality of life, to redevelop the urban contexts crossed in all their elements (roads, greenery, lighting, traffic lights, sewerage …).
