The work carried out in Mantova covered two significant projects: the new school “Istituto Mantegna” (Lot 1), completed in 2023 to accommodate over 800 students, and the Mantova Hub (Lot 2), which absorbed the workforce subsequently.

The Mantova Hub will be built on a former military area. The distinctive feature of this intervention is that it is being developed atop a Jewish cemetery, making coordination between the project and Jewish religious precepts crucial, particularly to avoid contact between the new structure and the ground, and to limit excavation depth.

The project consists of the restoration of five sheds (warehouses) and one gunpowder magazine, which will be designated for various functions, including a reception center for people with disabilities, an eco-hostel, and a covered market.

A footbridge will also be constructed to provide access to the cemetery, creating a synergy between the ancient and the modern. Due to its function of linking daily life, culture, and production, the Mantova Hub is also referred to as the “intermediate territory” (territorio di mezzo).
