The extension of the Maffei High School in Riva del Garda became urgent due to the severe lack of space and the resulting logistical and organizational issues caused by distributing students across two separate campuses. This project, which is of great importance for the territory as it serves several valleys in Trentino, involves construction using reinforced concrete for the underground levels and a structure of glued laminated timber beams and an XLAM wooden slab for the gymnasium, with vertical brick infill walls. The external elevation features a ventilated façade with fibercement and sintered stone panels. The gymnasium will not only be used for student physical education but has also been designed to meet standards for hosting external sporting and other events, with its roof characterized by 12 single-span glued laminated timber beams, each 25 linear meters long.
