Cmc, since 1901
CMC was founded in Ravenna on March 7, 1901, by 35 masons who established the “Società anonima cooperativa fra gli operai, muratori e manuali del Comune di Ravenna” (Cooperative Joint-Stock Company of the Workers, Masons, and Manual Laborers of the Municipality of Ravenna). In 1909, the Society merged with that of the Cement Workers: since then, “Muratori” (Masons) and “Cementisti” (Cement Workers) have marked the CMC brand.
After the Second World War, CMC participated in the process of reconstruction and rapid expansion of Italy’s industrial and infrastructural framework. In those years, CMC was involved in the construction of petrochemical plants in Ravenna and Sicily, grain silos, works for the port of Ravenna, and power plants, including the largest in Italy with a capacity of $2580\text{ MW}$, at the mouth of the Po River.
In the early sixties, with strong technological development, CMC intensified its specializations and professional qualification by adopting new construction technologies.
From 1965 onwards, after significant experience in the field of ordinary road construction, CMC established itself in the realization of the first national motorway plans. In the seventies, motorway works were indeed an opportunity for CMC to gain particular recognition, acquiring prestige as a national construction company with two highly important projects: the Gorsexio Viaduct at the beginning of the “Autostrada dei Trafori” (Tunnels Motorway) connecting Voltri with Alessandria, and the iron bridge crossing the Platano stream on the motorway section connecting Potenza to the “Autostrada del Sole” (Motorway of the Sun).
Entry into the foreign market occurred in 1975 with a contract in Iran. In the 1980s, CMC mainly operated in Africa in the construction of silos and milling complexes for cereals (Algeria, Iran), roads (Somalia, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso), and dams (Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Algeria).
Towards the end of the 1980s, CMC enriched its activity abroad with new and more complex specializations in the field of underground works and hydraulic works, also extending its activity to the Far East. CMC has been present in Mozambique for almost 40 years where, thanks to a consolidated operational and entrepreneurial structure, it has actively contributed to the development of infrastructure and industrial complexes.
At the beginning of the 21st century, CMC increased its capacity to carry out highly complex technological works in the transport, hydroelectric, and underground sectors, leading it to operate in more than 20 countries.
During 2025, CMC became part of the Finres Holding Group, which allowed it to overcome and leave behind a period of purely financial difficulty and re-establish itself as a key player in the national and international construction sector.
In December 2025, the industrial branch of Manelli Impresa, including all ongoing orders, will be incorporated into the CMC Group.
