PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Yellow River Diversion Project is a huge diversion project located in the Northern Chinese Province of Shanxi. The hydraulic project includes building a Main Line (40 km) that will take water from the dam built on the Yellow River up to a fork where the South and North Lines will branch out respectively towards the cities of Taiyuan and Datong. Here the water will be used for both civil and industrial purposes.

Construction of lots WYRDP-C2 & WYRDP-C3 mainly consist in the construction of four free flow tunnels (tunnels #4-5-6-7) with a total length of 89 km.

A 370m long concrete aqueduct, two Cut&Cover Culverts made of cast-in-situ reinforced concrete and an open, stone lined channel complete the project.

Four double shield TBMs, three Robbins and one NFM, were utilized for the tunnels excavation.

TBM rate of advancement widely depended on the actual conditions encountered during excavation and ranged between the 26,5m per working day till the very satisfactory performance of nearly 46m per working day.
