PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Koudiat Acerdoune dam, on the Isser river, is located south of Lakhdaria, about 60 km East to Algiers.

The project mainly consists of the following.

A roller compacted concrete dam having the following features: height 121m, length at crest 425m, crest width 8m, volume 1.515.000 m3, gross storage capacity of 640 million m3.

River diversion works incorporating also the bottom outlet structures, consisting in three reinforced concrete tunnels, having a square section of 8x8m and length of 285m.

Spillway in reinforced concrete incorporated in the central part of the dam body, length 142m, capacity 7.000 m3/s.

Intake works with four intakes for drinking water and two intakes for irrigation water.

Water intakes for irrigation purposes consisting in a steel penstock dia. 1.600mm, capacity 10m3/s and for drinking water consisting in a steel penstock dia. 1.000mm, capacity 7 m3/s.

Three auscultation and drainage tunnels, dimensions 3×3.3m, built inside the dam body and extending to dam abutments.
